Salt Chlorinators

Salt Chlorinators
in South Africa

Generate your own chlorine from salt. Lower running costs, softer water, less chemical handling. Residential and commercial systems plus replacement cells in stock at both branches.

How Salt Chlorination Works

A salt chlorinator converts dissolved pool salt into chlorine through electrolysis. The cell, installed on your return pipe after the filter, passes a low electrical current through the salt water to produce hypochlorous acid. The same active sanitiser as regular chlorine, just generated on demand.

The salt recycles continuously. You only top up when water is lost through backwashing, splashing, or rain overflow. One bag of pool salt can last months. The result is consistent chlorine levels, softer water, and significantly lower chemical costs.

Why Choose Salt?

  • 30% to 50% lower chemical costs per year.
  • Softer water. Gentler on skin, eyes, and swimwear.
  • No more storing and handling chlorine granules.
  • Consistent chlorine output. No peaks and troughs.
  • Retrofits to any existing pool. No major changes needed.

Salt Chlorinator FAQ

Is a salt chlorinator better than using chlorine?

A salt chlorinator still uses chlorine. It just makes it from salt dissolved in your pool water instead of you adding granules or tablets manually. The main benefits are lower ongoing chemical costs, softer water, and less hands-on maintenance. The upfront cost is higher, but most pool owners find the convenience and savings worthwhile within the first year.

How much does it cost to run a salt chlorinator?

A bag of pool salt costs around R80 to R120 and lasts months. Compare that to buying chlorine every week or two. The chlorinator cell uses a small amount of electricity. Overall, most homeowners save 30% to 50% on chemical costs after switching to salt. The main ongoing expense is cell replacement every 3 to 5 years.

What size salt chlorinator do I need?

Salt chlorinator output is rated by pool volume in litres. As a rule, choose a unit rated for at least 25% more than your actual pool volume. This gives the unit headroom so it does not run at 100% all the time, which extends cell life. Come in with your pool dimensions and we will calculate the correct size.

Can I add a salt chlorinator to my existing pool?

Yes. Salt chlorinators retrofit to any pool with a standard filtration system. The cell installs inline on your return pipe after the filter. Your existing pump and filter stay as they are. The only requirement is adding the correct amount of pool-grade salt to your water. We handle the full setup and commissioning.
