What's Included
Every visit covers the full checklist. Not a quick skim and dash. Proper maintenance from people who understand pool equipment inside out.
Weekly Chemical Testing & Balancing
Full water analysis every visit. pH, chlorine, alkalinity, stabiliser, and calcium hardness adjusted to keep your pool safe and crystal clear.
Skimming & Surface Cleaning
Leaves, debris, and anything floating on or settling at the bottom. We clean the waterline, skim the surface, and vacuum when needed.
Pump Basket & Weir Cleaning
Clogged baskets reduce flow and burn out pumps. We empty and inspect your pump basket, weir basket, and skimmer every visit.
Filter Backwashing & Maintenance
Regular backwashing to maintain filter pressure. Sand condition checks. Media replacement when needed. Your filter is the engine of clean water.
Equipment Health Checks
Pump pressure, motor sounds, pipe joints, chlorinator output, timer settings. We catch small problems before they become expensive ones.
Seasonal Opening & Winterizing
Spring start-up to get your pool swim-ready. Winter prep to protect equipment and prevent algae during the off-season. Covered both ways.
How It Works
Three steps. No complicated sign-up process. No lock-in contracts.

Seasonal Pool Care Calendar
Roodepoort's climate puts a pool through four distinct phases each year. Here is what our maintenance teams do at each stage, and why timing matters more than most owners realise.
Spring (September to October)
- Winter covers come off, the pump and filter get a full inspection, and chemistry is rebalanced for rising Roodepoort temperatures.
- Spring is when the Reef warms up fast. Chlorine demand can double in two weeks, so we raise sanitiser levels ahead of the summer load.
- Early spring attention prevents the December green-pool disaster that catches owners who only service reactively.
Summer (November to February)
- Summer on the Highveld punishes chlorine. High UV burns through stabiliser and sanitiser faster than any other time of year.
- We test twice-weekly on high-use pools in this window, because a single thunderstorm can drop free chlorine to zero in one afternoon.
- Rain brings nitrates and phosphates that feed algae. Balanced chemistry within 24 hours of a storm is the rule, not the exception.
Autumn (March to April)
- Autumn brings falling leaves, cooler water, and the start of algae pressure. Baskets fill faster and filters need more backwash attention.
- Late autumn is when winter algae slips in quietly. Clear water in April can be green by July without proper stabilisation going into winter.
- We adjust chlorinator output, check cover condition, and set sanitiser for the cold months so owners are not surprised in spring.
Winter (May to July)
- Winter pools need less chlorine, but zero maintenance is the real enemy. Stagnant water goes murky fast even under a cover.
- We run weekly visits at reduced intensity through winter, keeping chemistry viable so the spring open-up is fast and predictable.
- Winter is the best window for pump repairs, filter media swaps, or resurfacing. Lower bather load means less disruption to the owner.
Understanding Pool Water Chemistry
Every visit we test these five readings. Each one has a target range and a failure mode. Knowing what they mean is half the battle for any pool owner in the West Rand.
pH balance
7.2 to 7.6Target 7.2 to 7.6. Too low corrodes metal fittings and irritates swimmers. Too high drops chlorine power by up to 70 percent.
Free chlorine
1 to 3 ppmTarget 1 to 3 ppm. Below 1 ppm algae takes over inside 48 hours. Above 3 ppm swimmers complain about dry skin and bleached costumes.
Total alkalinity
80 to 120 ppmTarget 80 to 120 ppm. Alkalinity is the pH buffer. Low alkalinity means pH swings daily. We adjust with sodium bicarbonate.
Cyanuric acid (stabiliser)
30 to 50 ppmTarget 30 to 50 ppm. Stabiliser protects chlorine from UV. Roodepoort and West Rand sun burns through unstabilised chlorine in hours.
Calcium hardness
200 to 400 ppmTarget 200 to 400 ppm. Low calcium leaches from pool plaster and heater elements. High calcium scales equipment. Monthly check minimum.
Bring a sealed sample of your pool water to our Roodepoort branch at 227 Ontdekkers Road for a free, full-spectrum test on all five readings.

Pool Maintenance FAQ
How much does pool maintenance cost in Roodepoort?
Price depends on pool size, condition, and service frequency. Chemicals are included. We quote after the first assessment visit so there are no surprises later.
How often should my pool be serviced?
Weekly is the standard for Roodepoort pools. It keeps chemistry stable, catches equipment faults early, and stops algae taking hold in summer months.
Do you supply the pool chemicals?
Yes. We are a pool equipment supplier first. You get trade-quality chemicals at supplier pricing, not the retail markup a pure service company has to charge.
What areas do you service from Roodepoort?
We cover Roodepoort, Horison, Florida, Constantia Kloof, Wilgeheuwel, Ruimsig, Krugersdorp, Randburg, and the wider West Rand inside 50km of our branch.
Can I maintain my pool myself and still use Ridds?
Yes. Many Roodepoort owners self-test weekly. Bring a sample to our branch monthly and we will run a free lab test to catch anything that was missed.
Weekly or fortnightly service, which do I need?
Weekly means steadier chemistry and earlier fault detection. Fortnightly suits covered or off-season pools. Big family pools in summer always need weekly.
Why does my pool keep turning green?
Green almost always means algae from low chlorine, high pH, or poor circulation. Bring a water sample, we will test it free and tell you exactly what to fix.
Do you service commercial pools, estates, and complexes?
Yes. We service complexes, estates, hotels, and schools across Gauteng. Commercial scheduling is separate and priced per pool size and usage profile.
