Weekly through summer (October to April), fortnightly through autumn, monthly through winter. Ruimsig pools are usually larger than the West Rand average, often 50,000 to 80,000 litres on a smallholding, which means more water to balance and more surface area to brush. Add dust from open ground, grass clippings from large lawns, and koi-pond runoff, and weekly is the safe default. We size the visit cadence to your pool volume, tree and dust load, and how often the family swims.

Ruimsig is about 18 minutes from the Horison shop, so the answer is no on a standing maintenance contract. Once you are on a weekly or fortnightly route, the per-visit rate is the same as a closer suburb. We may build a small travel premium into a once-off green pool recovery or a same-day emergency. Standing customers pay nothing extra for the Ruimsig drive.

Test the water, balance chlorine and pH, brush the walls and waterline, vacuum the floor, empty the weir and pump baskets, backwash the filter if needed, and check the pump runtime and filter pressure against the pool volume. All routine chemicals are included. You get a short report after each visit showing what was done, added, and the readings we measured.

Possibly not. Mervyn Trollip's pump-sizing table puts a 0.6kW Q80 on pools up to 45,000 litres, a 0.75kW Q120 up to 65,000 litres, and a 1.1kW Q160 up to 90,000 litres. A lot of older Ruimsig pools were built before the home grew around them, and the original pump is now under-sized for the actual volume. Green-pool recovery on a 60,000 litre Ruimsig pool typically runs R2,000 to R3,500 depending on the algae load and whether the filter sand needs replacement. We bring all chemicals, shock the pool, manage filtration, and visit daily until the water is clear. Most pools are swimmable inside 72 hours.

Yes. A lot of Ruimsig properties run a koi pond next to the pool, sometimes sharing an equipment shed. We can check pond filtration, top-up beneficial bacteria, and inspect the koi pump on the same visit as the pool. Note that koi ponds need different chemistry and a UV step we do not stock on the maintenance van by default, so flag a koi pond when you book and we bring the right gear.

Spares for most common pumps, filters, sand filters, and automatic cleaners sold in the West Rand over the last twenty years sit on the shelf at the Horison shop, including the larger 1.1kW Q160 motors used on big Ruimsig pools.
